The unique emphasis of this program is music for baroque guitar and theorbo. This particular chamber combination is one, which flourished across Europe more than two centuries ago. The low register of the theorbo beautifully intermixed with the high range resonance of the Baroque guitar. Originally conceived as ideal accompanying instruments, they were often used in combination in a Basso Continuo group, which naturally brought these instruments together. The art of Basso Continuo accompaniment and the improvisational skills most musicians possessed was a very fertile soil for the art of spontaneous music making.. Often we find music for the lute family instruments and guitar in versions for other instruments or even set of instruments. One can easily imagine that a great amount of the works we encounter give a great deal of freedom to the performer, letting him even become a co-author in a way. Working on this program we have tried to recreate the spontaneous atmosphere inherent in the music, which was the day to day practice for the time of the Baroque.
